Found objects, with words embroidered, appliquéd and printed onto garments.
This project grew from my interest in people’s relationships with their belongings. Wardrobes and clothing seemed a rich place to explore the things we keep, the things we let go, and what this means to us. I interviewed 12 people on this subject.
I had also been exploring ideas of agency, assemblage, actants, affordances and animism and this study impacted on my thinking. I decided to mine the interviews for words which had been, or could have been, attributed to items of clothing, which I think affixed to garments, mostly purchased from charity shops.
I also created a book of participant-voiced poems, using material extracted from the same interviews.
